We developed the MEB, our modular electric toolkit, with the intent that the technology be shared.
Whether an EV is an SUV or city-ready sedan, it will sit atop the same MEB technology. The Volkswagen global goal: approximately 20 million EVs built on MEB by 2029.The vehicles will consist of a transmission as well as up to 2 electric motors (front and/ or rear) and will be driven by power electronics between the battery and motor.
The MEB platform has an elongated wheelbase and short overhangs. Plus, with the absence of a combustion engine, the interior cabin space is maximized even more. Succeeding the VW ID.3, the ID.4 utilizes that interior space to its advantage. Offering 37.6-inches of rear leg room and up to 64.2 cu-ft of cargo space, you’ll never go back once you feel the difference the MEB platform makes.
The Volkswagen ID.4 has an eight-year/100,000 miles (whichever occurs first) warranty specific to the High Voltage Battery. Additionally, all your other warranty benefits are covered in Carefree Coverage, which come standard on all MY21 vehicles. The ID.4 has a four-year/50,000 mile (whichever occurs first) New Vehicle Limited Warranty3. Plus, you’ll get two years/20,000 miles of Scheduled Carefree Maintenance, and with three years/36,000 miles of Roadside Assistance5, your out-of-charge vehicle can be towed to the nearest Electrify America station free of charge. There is no limit to the number of times you can use this service per year, and it’s available 24/7.
In a battery electric vehicle, 70 to 80 percent of the energy used goes to the wheels. This is different in a hydrogen vehicle, where the efficiency rate is just 25 to 30 percent and the percentage is even lower for synthetic fuel types. That is why we are focusing on battery driven mobility as the best technology for carbon-neutrality.
One of the most important components in any electric vehicle is the high-voltage battery. That is why, here at Volkswagen, we are committed to reducing the complexity and costs of batteries in order to make electric vehicles more attractive and affordable. By 2030, Volkswagen plans to increase its sales of electric vehicles to 70% in Europe and 50% in the US. In order to meet the rising demand in battery cell driven vehicles, Volkswagen has partnered with multiple companies to build 6 gigafactories in Europe and is looking to expand the fast-charging network on a large scale.
The Volkswagen ID.4 EV is truly something to behold. With a striking, aerodynamic road presence and a spacious, comfortable interio, it’ll transform how you think about electric cars. Reserve it today.
